This is my son who is 22, and my daughter is 12. They just love each other. They age difference probably helps a lot. I would love for my daughter to get sisterlocks, and she very well may do that in 2008. My son has had his locks for one year. I missed my one year anniversary. I will have updates soon.

Happy New Year

Wow, whatever happened to 2007 ? It is hard to believe this year is over. It is so hard to believe we are embarking upon a new year. I do not know what God has planned for me, but I am completely trusting Him. Number one goal is to continue to grow closer to Christ, and the rest will fall into place. As the year is ending, I am so ready for a new beginning. Blessed beginnings to everyone, pray and be strong. Get ready for 2008.

My yoke is easy, and my burdens are light. Matthew 11:30

Can over grooming cause breakage ?

I was reading an article about locs and it stated that over grooming may cause breakage. So far I have not experienced problems with breakage. I need to hear from others that use roller setting, bantu knots or braiding for a textured look. Any feedback is appreciated.

Drum roll, the real me......

Getting my relaxed ends cut was a true revelation to me. I screamed for joy as I looked at myself for the first time with all natural hair. I loved it, but was sad at the same time. Sad because I missed so many years of being me. Finally I have reached a part of my life where I can be naturally me. I wish everyone could experience their natural hair for just one day. Then make a decision after you see the natural you.

There is nothing like it. It is liberating and uplifting, its beyond words.

Here is a picture while we were on our cruise. We had a terrific time.

Well, summer has came and sadly almost gone. Unbelievable....I enjoyed every minute though. This was my first summer wearing sisterlocks and vacation was a breeze. It was the first time I was not stressed about humility, rain or just plain frustrated about my hair. It was great swimming, traveling and playing in the rain. We had a great time in Jamaica and Cayman Islands. I can hardly wait unitl next summer.

Sisterlocks at 5 months. This is a wash and go. I didn't have time to roller set it. I still trim those relaxed ends. My hair is growing and is doing great no problems so far. No complaints. I love it more and more each day.
Helllo I have been tagged...I guess I am it...

I need to list 7 habits or qualities about myself and then notify those that tagged me. I was tagged by Chosenvessel and BlackRussian

1. I almost missed the love of my life. When my husband came for our first date I decided to stand him up. I just wasn't in the mood to date at that time. I told my sister to tell him I was not home. She came back and said you may not want to pass this one up, he has a nice car. We'll we have been married 19 years this June. He is my best friend and the love of my life. Glad I did not miss that date.

2. I have been working and teaching children for thirty years, either babysitting or Sunday school. I currently teach in a private preschool that is set up in my home. I am a Montessori teacher (hands on learning approach). I love kids

3. I am an avid reader, if I could spend my day reading I would. I have books all over the place, especially beside my bed.

4. I have homeschooled both my of children, I have a son who is 21 and a daughter who is twelve. My son is currently going to school to be a nurse and loves caring for others. My daughter is very caring too. I imagine she will work in a field that will allow her to exercise that gift.

5. I love animals of all kinds and I would love to bring them all home. I currently have 3 dogs and 1 turtle. That is all my husband will allow.

6. I am taking Spanish and violin lessons. It is never to late to learn.

7. When I first got my sisterlocks I use to wake up and think what have I done ? I knew I made the right decision, but sometimes I was shocked that I actually did it. Now when I wake up I am happy that I no longer have to alter my hair, no other culture does that. I am happy to be nappy.

Sogolocks

This is a picture of my son. He is 21 and attending school for nursing. He had his locks installed a month before mine. He claims he thought of the idea all by himself. Isn't that funny. Everyone rants and raves about them all the time. He said all his does is spritz and finger combs. That is the get and go ability I am talking about. You should see him in a suit ! Sogo

Sogo locks

Three months into my venture. I am finally happy with my hair. I can not believe it holds curl now and it is even beginning to thicken up. I just love the get up and go ability I have. Paulette(Detroit) did my installation and she did a beautiful job. I could not be happier. Thanks to everyone for blogging because I feel so alone. No one hardly has sisterlocks in my part of town. Everyone just looks and wonders what I am doing with my hair. Thanks for all your inspiration. Shout out to ChosenVessel, Brenda, Goodnapps and Blaqkofi you all are a true inspiration.

This is 6 months without a relaxer, I had a hard time waiting once I found out about sisterlocks. There was no holding me back at that point. I knew what I wanted done to my hair. The wait was the hardest part. I have been totally happy since I got them installed. No more hour upon hour in the salon, getting burned by a curling iron, dye dripping now my face onto my clothes, hair being pulled out by braiding and no more creamy crack. I can not say I have had any bad hair days. When I do I just place a hairband on and go..... Sogo

My venture

My decision to get sisterlocks was truly a venture. I had it with relaxers and was tried of sitting in a salon only to go home unhappy. As I transitioned my beautician told me, I can not do anything with your hair. You will need a relaxer, I was near tears. I then found a natural salon that specialized in natural hair, only problem it cost $35 an hour. The style would barely last a week and I was back at the salon again. I did not want to depend on a salon to make me satisfied. I searched and searched and found out about sisterlocks. It was love at first sight.
